WhatsApp Gold Scam Alert

WhatsApp users need to be aware of the latest scam message being spread through the app. In fact, this exact scam has surfaced before, but many users will be unaware and need to watch out. The message offers an upgrade to WhatsApp Gold with the ability to hold video chats, send albums of photos and delete photos post sending, sadly it’s all a scam to get you to a website which is full of malware.

The malware will infect your device and leave you very vulnerable to private data theft. This is just another example of fraudsters phishing for your personal details and there have been similar fake sites for brands including JDSports and Centerparcs. According to Norton more than 17 million British citizens were hit by cybercrime in 2017.

Tips and Advice

  • Don’t Click – on any link in an email that you are not 100% sure is genuine, always go independently to their website and log in to execute any action.
  • The real deal? – Check out their page in full, has it been up a long time? Are there many posts? Are there a lot of followers?
  • If its too good to be true – then it isn’t! It’s a scam
  • Don’t – be pressured into acting quickly, this is a ‘red flag’ and sign of a scam.
  • Keep safe – never give your Pin, passwords or banking codes to anyone requesting them.
  • Personal means private! – Do not divulge personal details unless you are certain who you are talking to.
  • Report it! – If you receive such a message report it to Instagram using this link.
  • Contact – your bank or credit card company if you have already given out financial details.
